The meaning of prehistoric shell-middens:

From their common background to their singularity

- You have a Master degree, 

- You are interested in Prehistoric populations and in the ocean,

- You have not resided or carried out your main activity (work, studies..) in France more than 12 months in the 36 months immediately before the date of recruitment,

- You are not already in possession of a doctoral degree at the date of the recruitment

This PhD position is part of the European ArCHe project https://www.arche.uio.no/ 

This one will be based in France (Rennes) and will focus on shell-middens https://www.arche.uio.no/vacancies/dc7.html and https://emploi.cnrs.fr/Offres/Doctorant/UMR6566-MARDAI0-004/Default.aspx?lang=EN

The candidate must have basic knowledge of the Mesolithic and Neolithic periods. The candidate will produce synthesis of these periods by comparing archaeological sites along the European Atlantic seaboard from Scandinavian to Iberian ones. To do this, he/she will work with a database incorporating all the faunal and plants remains, radiocarbon dates, lithics, ceramics, etc.
